The Majik Drum Rig

What is the purpose of the short leader drum rig with circle hook?  That is a legitimate question some of you may have asked.  In an effort to save our big red drum, so the spawning stock can increase, the Division of Marine Fisheries closed the season on taking any red drum over 27” in length a few years ago.  Since there was an extensive fishery operating in Pamlico Sound on large fish over 27” it became apparent that status quo of using j-hooks and long leaders would result in killing far too many fish.  DMF was also very aware of the probability of this taking place, and was considering a night time closure for drum fishing.  DMF biologists reported seeing big drum floating at daylight on several occasions as a result of the use of j-hooks and long leaders.  It was then that I decided there must be a better way of catching these fish without causing so much harm.

ICAST 2008 – Sportfishing Product Manufacturers Miss The Mark?

July 16th through the 18th, 2008 the American Sportfishing Association held its annual ICAST sportfishing trade show. The show was sold out for the seventh straight year. ICAST was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This show is where the “Who’s-Who” of the global sportfishing industry gather to show their fishing products. All the big companies were there, Pure Fishing, Johnson Outdoors, Shimano, Rapala, Pinnacle Fishing, and Daiwa just to name a few.

The Launch of the Tackle Monkey!

Welcome to a new source for fishing tackle and information on the web.  We quietly launched TackleMonkey.com earlier this week and will be adding more products and content in the coming weeks.  Many of the product links currently show no products in those categories.  We will be working to remedy that in the next few months.  We will also be posting announcements here in the Tackle Blogs about product additions and company news.  We hope you will check back often.
